Resolution of Cystoid Macular Edema Secondary to Radiotherapy following Topical Nepafenac Treatment

چکیده
Objective: To report on the use of topical nepafenac in the treatment of cystoid macular edema (CME) secondary to radiation therapy for choroidal metastasis. Method: Case report with presentation of spectral domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT) findings before and after topical nepafenac therapy. Results: A 42-year-old lady with a history of breast carcinoma presented with left eye blurring of vision due to left eye choroidal metastasis. Radiation therapy was performed on the left eye for choroidal metastasis and the choroidal metastasis completely regressed. Two months after radiation therapy, the patient developed reduced vision due to macular edema and SD-OCT demonstrated CME with macular thickening. Topical nepafenac therapy for 1 month resulted in complete resolution of the CME and her vision improved from 20/70 to 20/25. There was no evidence of recurrence of CME in 8 months after cessation of nepafenac therapy. Conclusion: Topical nepafenac appeared to be a useful treatment option for CME secondary to radiation therapy.

Pseudophakic cystoid macular edema prevention and risk factors; prospective study with adjunctive once daily topical nepafenac 0.3% versus placebo
BACKGROUND Define the effectiveness of a topical non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) added to topical steroid use after uncomplicated phacoemulsification for the prevention of pseudophakic cystoid macular edema (PCME) using a prospective, randomized, double-masked, placebo-controlled clinical study. METHODS Eyes (1000) were randomized to placebo (497) or nepafenac 0.3% (503) used onc...

PURPOSE To describe the use of nepafenac 0.1% for cystoid macular edema (CME). METHODS This was a multicenter retrospective review of 22 CME cases (20 patients) treated with nepafenac 0.1% (six with concomitant prednisolone acetate 1%) from December 2005 to April 2008: three acute pseudophakic CME cases, 13 chronic/recalcitrant pseudophakic CME cases, and six cases of uveitic CME. PURPOSE To describe a case of cystoid macular edema (CME) developing after posterior chamber toric phakic intraocular lens (PIOL) implantation. METHODS Case report. RESULTS A 33-year-old male underwent implantation of toric implantable collamer lenses (ICL), a new generation of PIOLs, for both eyes. Preoperative best spectacle-corrected distance visual acuity (BCVA) was 20/25 in the right e...
متن کاملSpectral domain optical coherence tomography documented rapid resolution of pseudophakic cystoid macular edema with topical difluprednate
INTRODUCTION Pseudophakic cystoid macular edema is a common cause of poor vision after cataract surgery, and topical corticosteroids and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs are used for its treatment. We investigated the effectiveness of difluprednate (Durezol(®), recently approved by the US Food and Drug Administration) in the treatment of cystoid macular edema, assisted with spectral domain ...
متن کاملTopical nepafenac for prevention of post-cataract surgery macular edema in diabetic patients: patient selection and perspectives
Since its first description, the prevention of pseudophakic cystoid macular edema (PCME) continues to pose challenges for ophthalmologists. Recent evidence suggests that prophylaxis is unnecessary in patients without risk factors. Diabetes mellitus is generally considered as a risk factor for the development of PCME after cataract surgery since it causes breakdown of the blood-retinal barrier. ...
